Press release for week of March 19, 2012

Many thanks to the residents of Epping who voted to support the Harvey-Mitchell Memorial Library and our efforts to expand. The plan is to build an addition on to the southern end of the building. With the process now officially underway, the Trustees invite patron input and will be looking forward to several years of planning, designing, fund-raising and building. It will be so exciting to create new space for the variety of needs that the town library serves.

The March/April session of Reading Friends still has spaces for first and second graders who wish to practice their reading aloud with a small group. Meeting on Wednesday afternoons from 3:30 to 4:00, this session will run until April 18th. Registration is required, snack is provided, and accompanying adults are expected to remain in the building during the half-hour class. Call or stop by to register.

The recent warm weather might have reminded everyone that summer is not that far away. For the library that means Summer Reading! This year the program will encourage kids to “Dream Big”and to consider some of the amazing things that can only be seen at night. The first meeting of the 2012 SRP Volunteer Crew will be on Thursday, March 22nd at 4 pm. Kids currently in 5th grade and above are welcome to come to find out what this important part of the library’s summer is all about.

Monthly programs for adults continue as follows: Epping Knit Night meets on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays each month. The next Knit Night will be March 28th beginning at 7 pm. Copies of these titles can be picked up at the main circulation desk upstairs.

April’s Pajama Night will feature the annual story play by the Story Explorers, a group of kindergarten, first and second graders and their “big kid” helpers. On Friday, April 13th at 6:30 this group will present their production of Lisa Wheeler’s story “Ugly Pie” on the Explorer Stage and then host crafts and a scavenger hunt based on a bakery theme. Children ages 2-8 and their families are invited to bring a snack to share at this fun evening in the children’s room.
