The Friends of the Harvey Mitchell Memorial Library in Epping will be holding a raffle in December to raise money for the many incidentals they provide to the library. In place of their usual silent auction, the F.O.L. will raffle 3 gift baskets and several local restaurant gift certificates between December 1st and the 16th. Interested in what the Friends do? They are now meeting on the 2nd Tuesday each month to discuss ways to support and enhance the programs offered by the library, including providing pizza and popcorn for movie nights, funding for special programs and much more! This small but enthusiastic group is always open to new members who love the library and want to find a way to give back.

The Dusty Old Mystery Book Group meets this week on Wednesday evening at 7 pm. This month they will be discussing “Death in High Heels” by Christianna Brand. They will not be meeting in December, but will be reading “Gun for Hire” by Graham Greene for their meeting on January 18th. The Eclectic Book Group is reading “Redbird Christmas” by Fannie Flagg in preparation for their discussion on Wednesday, December 7th. New members are always welcome. Copies of the groups’ selections are available at the main desk.

On Thursday, November 10th Dr. Jonathan Couser from Lee will present a timely program for adults examining similarities and differences between the Christian Crusades and Islamic Jihad. He earned his doctorate from the University of Notre Dame and has taught at UNH and Southern New Hampshire University. The program will begin at 7:30 in the children’s room downstairs.

With the library being closed on the 11th for Veteran’s Day, November’s PJ Movie Night has been scheduled instead for Friday, November 18th at 6:30, featuring the sequel to the Disney/Pixar phenomenon starring Lightning McQueen, Tow Mater and friends. All children attending the movie must be accompanied by a responsible big person, and are encouraged to bring a snack to share.
