Town Administrator Dean Shankle Not Taking Raise This Year
With all of the outrageous behavior going on these days, from hot-shot financiers to hot-headed politicians, it’s almost hard to believe there are any good guys to be found in this recession. Yet one popped up last week, not on Wall Street or in Washington, but just over in Epping.
The town has been operating under a spending freeze since last fall. No department head is allowed to make a purchase of $500 or more without approval from the board of selectmen, who are still looking for ways to save taxpayer money.
Last month, Town Administrator Dean Shankle quietly came to the selectmen and notified them that he would not accept his 3 percent cost-of-living adjustment this year.
