Groups eye land along Lamprey

August 26, 2008

Local conservationists are eyeing 12 acres of private land across from Mary Blair Park for a possible picnic area or other conservation uses.

The conservation commission and the Lamprey River Advisory Committee have expressed interest in purchasing the land, which sits along the scenic Lamprey River.

Conservation Commission Chairman Greg Tillman said last night the two groups would offer approximately $100,000 to buy the land, which has been on the market for some time.

If the sale moved forward, the conservation commission would fund half of the project using money from a conservation fund. The fund has a little more than $100,000 in it, Tillman said. The rest of the cost would be covered by the Lamprey River Advisory Committee.

The land along Folsom Mill Road could be used for picnics and also provide access to the river for fishing and other activities.
