$5000 Embezzled From Cub Scouts Pack Bank Account
The young members of Epping Cub Scout Pack 136 sold countless quantities of popcorn to raise money for special trips and summer camp.
Now many are in jeopardy of not being able to attend the August camp after an adult associated with the group allegedly embezzled more than $5,000 from the pack’s bank account, according to Matt Cray, Cub master. The money was supposed to pay for the five-day trip to Camp Carpenter in Manchester, as well as a recent overnight trip to the Museum of Science in Boston. Funds raised from the popcorn sales also cover things like merit badges.
“Some kids really sold a lot of popcorn,” Cray said.
After the Boston trip, Cray got a phone call from the regional Cub Scout council, with news that the check for that trip had bounced. He started looking into the pack’s finances and found money that was supposed to be in the account was not.
