Pajama Nights are back at the Harvey Mitchell Memorial Library in Epping. On the 2nd Friday of each month, children ages 2-8 and their parents are invited to don their comfiest PJs and spend a fun evening at the library. Some months will feature a movie on the 9-foot screen, while other months will offer the now traditional PJ Night with crafts, stories and a library-wide scavenger hunt focused on a specific and sometimes seasonal theme. On Friday, September 10th Pajama Night will be focusing on the letter “A” and one of New England’s finest fall fruits. As always there will be a snack table, but this time the staff encourages folks to adapt a favorite apple recipe for their contribution. Those who are not adventurous cooks are asked to bring any type of snack to share. The library will provide apple juice and cider and an apple surprise or two. The fun begins at 6:30, ending with stories at about 7:30.

Preschool Storyhour returned to its regular schedule on August 12th, after shifting to allow for the summer reading program. Storyhour meets on Wednesday mornings at 10:30 and Thursdays at 10:30 and 1:30. This is a drop-in program of free play time, stories and projects for preschool children and their parents. Younger siblings are always welcome.

The fall session of Story Explorers begins on September 28th. This program provides an after school activity for recent “graduates” of Storyhour. Children in Kindergarten, first and second grade are invited to spend 8 weeks of Tuesday afternoons at the library from 3:30 to 4:30 for “big kid” stories, games and hands-on activities. Class size is limited to 10 and pre-registration is required. Parents are required to remain in the building during class time.

For information on these or any other children’s programs, please contact Miss Tracie at 679-5944.

New England Dragway hosts pivotal stop on Nitro Jam tour September 11-12

Huge show on tap for debut of new Nitro Jam format at NED

EPPING, N.H. (August 31, 2010) – Race fans get ready because the all new Nitro Jam is coming to New England Dragway for the North American Nitro Jam September 11-12 in Epping, N.H.

And this year the event will play its biggest role yet.

As the next-to-last event on the 2010 schedule, drivers will be throwing caution to the wind as they claw and scratch for every bit of real estate they can get in an attempt to get ahead and stay ahead before the season finale at Virginia Motorsports Park in October.

The 8,000 horsepower machines known as Top Fuel return to New England Dragway September 11-12

Competition will be as fierce as ever for the professional cars, while the sportsman drivers gear up for one of the last chances of the season to qualify for the 2010 Tournament of Champions. Nowhere will you find more competitive racing than Epping’s New England Dragway September 11-12.

In addition to being a pivotal stop on the 2010 Nitro Jam schedule, the New England Nitro Jam will also feature the northeast’s first look at the brand new format and classes as a lineup chalked full of nitro-burning dragsters and funny cars awaits fans at the legendary New Hampshire track.

Chalked full of new classes, new rules and an exciting new format, the brand new Nitro Jam will be unlike anything fans have ever seen before. From the rush of 300 mile-per-hour Top Fuel Dragsters, to the 100 percent nitro powered Pro Fuel Dragster class and the new fan favorite Prostalgia Nitro Funny Cars, the new Nitro Jam promises to give fans the nitro rush they have been waiting for.

Also on tap for this unique event is the New England debut of side-by-side jet trucks as the Shockwave jet semi battles the Super Shockwave ’57 Chevy in a showdown between 60,000 horsepower machines.

Nitro Funny Cars return to New England in the all-new Prostalgia Nitro Funny Car class

And that’s not all. The two-day event will also feature wheelstanders, the Harland Sharp Elite 8 Top Sportsman and Top Dragster showdown, high speed sled racing, two days of sportsman racing, FanFest, an incredible fireworks display and much more.

During FanFest fans will have an hour or more to explore the pits and see everything Nitro Jam has to offer.

Along with meeting the drivers and crews, several stations will be set up in the pit area for fans to interact with the event. Included in the list of fan activities is a chance to sign fan-favorite Bobby Lagana’s Top Fuel dragster moments before he makes a 300+ mph pass, a coloring contest where fans can design their own Top Fuel dragster with the winning picture being used as an actual wrap on a dragster later in the season, a reaction time tournament with an actual IHRA tree and a chance to be the race director for a day as fans are selected to draw the first-round pairings of the professional rounds.

FanFest will come to a close with Nitro Thunder as nearly two dozen nitro vehicles warm up at the same time, creating an experience unlike any other. And if it’s more pyrotechnic entertainment you’re seeking, each day’s action is capped by an awesome fireworks display.

For the first time in New Hampshire history the Shockwave jet semi will take on the Super Shockwave ’57 Chevy

And FanFest is only a small portion of what is new for 2010.

Along with new show elements, the new Nitro Jam will also feature a brand new format that puts an emphasis on entertainment and excitement to go along with the side-by-side nitro racing. Instead of two days of qualifying, fans will now see two full days of racing with a winner each night.

Racing will kick-off at 7 p.m. on Saturday and 1 p.m. on Sunday with immediate racing and eliminations. Each class will run twice each day with the quickest winners from round one meeting up for the championship later in the show.

After one round of nitro racing, fans will see each of show elements including the jet trucks, wheelstanders and additional entertainment pieces followed by a brief intermission. After a quick cleanup racing will continue with all the cars returning to the track and a winner being named in each class. The show will come to a close with a huge fireworks display and the most amazing spectacle in racing as the Shockwave jet semi goes head-to-head against the Super Shockwave jet truck.

The new Nitro Jam is all about entertainment mixed with competitive racing

More than anything the new format allows fans to enjoy an evening or afternoon of racing without much “downtime” in between. From the beginning of the show to the end fans will see everything Nitro Jam has to offer and more.

While the professional show will provide a completely new look and feel, sportsman racing will remain exactly the same with qualifying on Saturday and eliminations on Sunday. It will also be one of the final opportunities for sportsman racers to qualify for the year-end Tournament of Champions in Virginia.

In the professional categories the championship battles are some of the most intense ever seen before in Nitro Jam competition.

Coming into New Hampshire Bobby Lagana and Bruce Litton are currently the men on top of the Top Fuel field, bringing with them nearly 20 wins combined and an incredible lead over the rest of the field. Lagana has been the biggest surprise so far this season with a championship caliber year for the lowest budgeted team on the tour.

Behind Litton and Lagana is ’08 Top Fuel World Champion and ’09 NHRA Rookie of the Year Spencer Massey and Del Cox Jr. The two teammates aren’t in the championship picture, but both are still very hungry for a win at the New England track.

The northeast’s best sportsman racers prepare for one last shot at the Tournament of Champions

Not to be outdone the 100-percent nitro-powered Pro Fuel class has been just as exciting as their much larger cousins with low five-second runs at over 270 miles-per-hour. Minnesota based racer Jeff Hamelink currently leads the class with one win through the first eight races this season.

Bill Evans, driver of the “Black Pearl” Pro Fuel machine, is also in the hunt along with Michael Manners in the “Shreddar” Pro Fuel Dragster and Robin Samsel in the “A-Fuelish Pleasure” Machine.

By far the most exciting new addition to the Nitro Jam formula is the incredibly popular Prostalgia Nitro Funny Car class. Featuring halftrack burnouts and on-the-edge racing, the new class has been a hit with fans as some of the best nostalgia cars in the country have joined the tour.

Leading the new class is Steve Nichols, driver of the “Mill Road Boys” ’70 Camaro, who has amassed a narrow lead over friend and rival Peter Gallen, driver of the “Poverty Stricken” Vega. Gallen leads the class in wins.

Greg Jacobsmeyer, driving the “All-Star Dodge” Challenger, is third, followed by Mike “McAttack” McIntire and John Dunn.

Don’t miss New England’s biggest race as Nitro Jam invades New England Dragway September 11-12 for the North American Nitro Jam.

Tickets are only $25 if purchased in advance and, as always, parking and admission to the FanFest pit party is free. The North American Nitro Jam will also feature a special military night on Saturday, September 11 to honor those who help serve this great nation.

Be on the lookout for complete details of the upcoming event at www.nitrojam.com, www.newenglanddragway.com or by calling 603-679-1955.
