EPPING—Mazeltov! L’chaim! Director Elaine Gatchell announces Leddy Center’s outstanding presentation of Broadway’s most beloved musical, “Fiddler on the Roof”, July 6-22, at Leddy Center’s new beautiful theater at Verdant Pastures on Ladd’s Lane in Epping.

Dr. Paul Gustavson, stars for the fourth time as Tevye at Leddy Center, with his amazing performance of this great role. Based on Sholem Aleichem stories, by special permission of Arnold Perl, “Fiddler on the Roof” was written as a stage play by Joseph Stein, with music by Jerry Bock and lyrics by Sheldon Harnick. Dr. Paul Gustavson, once again, is our magnificent Tevye in this moving story of Tevye, the dairyman, his wife, Golde (Sheila Allen-Harris of Epping), and their five daughters, Tzeitel, (Melissa Ransdell of Newmarket), Hodel, (Hilary Webster of Raymond), Chava (Elaine Weatherby of Hampton), Sphrintze, (Abigail Rogers of Lee), and Bielke, (Lexi Wood of Fremont) in the politically and religiously volatile setting of turn-of-the-century Russia. Tevye’s sense of tradition and family, taught to him from the cradle, is tested again and again as his three eldest daughters choose mates that don’t completely fulfill his ideals, and when his home is ultimately pulled out from under his feet.

“Fiddler on the Roof” features the additional talents of Bonnie Bergeron of Rochester reprising her role as Yente, Greg Dixon of Exeter as Motel, Nick Kalantzakos of Andover, MA, as Perchik, Gregory Johnson of Epping, reprising his role as Fyedka, and Dave MacGregor of Manchester reprising his role as Lazar Wolf.

The FIDDLER is Nick DeFrancesco of Londonderry and Manhattan School of Music. These wonderful leads are backed up by the very talented cast of singers and dancers; Matt Lundergan, Dan Bush, Bob Collinge, Kevin Keith, Greg deZarn-O’Hare, Joy Wood, Ashley Bush, Christina Vogel, Barbara Gagnon, Gilda Gouin, Emma Kleinman, Setse Bush, Emma LeTourneau, Ashley Ganley, Olivia Wood, Collin George, Ryan Dever, Spencer Gregory, Inle Bush, Cole Hartnett, Ian Dever Noah Dever, Jake Hudgins, Chris Wood, and Mark Deyo, “Fiddler on the Roof” is directed by Elaine Gatchell, musically directed by Bruce Gatchell, and accompanied by Nathan Amsden.

Sponsored by Ben Franklin Store/ACE Hardware in Raymond, NH and Hurlbert Toyota of Epping, tickets for Fiddler on the Roof are $18. and $16. and can be purchased on line at www.leddycenter.org or by visiting or calling the box office, 3pm to 5pm, Monday through Friday, at 603-679-2781.

“Fiddler on the Roof” is underwritten by The SHARK at 102.1 & 105.3fm and by Seacoast Coke. Leddy Center is air-conditioned for your comfort and ADA accessible.

Attention all young ladies and gentlemen (and their grown-up chauffeurs)! The Epping library’s annual Spring Tea Party for children will be on Saturday, May 19th from 11 to 1. Boys and girls ages 3-8 are invited to dress in their finest, which can be ‘Sunday best’ or a favorite ‘dress-up’ selection, for tea and juice, special goodies, old fashioned crafts and even a maypole! Please contact Miss Tracie in the children’s room to reserve a spot at the party.

With this year’s summer reading theme being “Dream Big, Read!” we are excited to see what kinds of dreams the kids of Epping have for the future. We know the adults in the library community are dreaming about an expanded library! An architect has been selected out of a field of 14 submitted bids, but the trustees are still looking for residents with grant-writing and fund-raising experience to serve on the building committee. This will be a lengthy process that will require some creativity to raise the necessary funds in a tough economy. Anyone with these important skills and a love for the library is invited to contact library director, Bradley Green.

This year’s summer theme will also encourage children to explore the world of dreams and nighttime, from the real critters that come out after dark to the amazing creatures that appear from so many imaginations. We are counting on the imaginations of the SRP Volunteers to help make this summer fun and interesting. The Volunteers will be meeting on May 24th at 4:30 to brainstorm ideas for game components of the program and welcome additional members to the team. Young people entering middle school this fall are eligible to help and can pretty much design their own schedules as we close in on the end of the school year. Anyone interested in volunteering should contact Miss Tracie in the children’s room.

Also on May 24th, at 7:00 pm, the library will host a reading and book signing with local author Nancy Frye Bergeron. Ms. Bergeron will read from “Restoring the Postmaster’s Cottage: One Year’s Journey”, her recollections and observations of Epping’s own Hedding Campground. Whether you have a cabin at Hedding, have had the pleasure of visiting a family there or are just curious about this jewel hidden in the woods of our town, you will find this program a fascinating trip into Epping history and culture.

The library’s annual Toy Sale to benefit the Summer Reading Program is scheduled for Saturday, June 23rd from 9 to noon. Donations of gently used toys, games, outdoor and sports equipment can be dropped off at the library during operating hours. Clothing and stuffed animals will not be accepted. Keep the library in mind during spring cleaning!

The library will be closed for usual activities on Monday, May 28th but the building will be open from 9 to 12 during Epping’s Memorial Day Parade. We hope to see you there.

Epping’s public library is open Monday – Friday from 10 am to 8 pm and Saturday 10 to 2. For more information call 679-5944, or visit www.eppinglibrary.com.

EPPING - Exeter Health Resources and Seacoast United Sports Club are excited to have formed a dynamic new partnership. This exciting and innovative relationship enables the health system to provide the local soccer and sports club organization with specialized sports medicine physicians, dedicated strength training, rehabilitation therapy and a variety of information and education forums on health and wellness.

“Seacoast United is very excited to partner with Core Physicians’ sports medicine team for our upcoming season,” said Paul Willis, President and CEO of Seacoast United Sports Club. “One of the most important factors to all of the staff and coaches within Seacoast United is that Exeter Health Resources serves the same region we are involved in and everyone we have met shares a collective passion for wanting to make a difference within our communities.”

Seacoast United has year round sports activities taking place in Hampton, Exeter and Kingston including soccer, lacrosse, field hockey and baseball. The concept for the new relationship evolved from a long time advertising sponsorship of Seacoast United by Exeter Health Resources.

“Together with Paul we recognized that the depth of resources within the hospital and its operating affiliates could help to make a real difference to the coaches, players and their families by taking the relationship to another level,” explained Mark Whitney, Vice President of Strategy and Community Relations for Exeter Health Resources. “In addition to orthopaedic and sports medicine professionals we can provide a full spectrum of professionals from pediatricians to neurologists who are available to support our partnership with Seacoast United in a way we hope will positively impact the young athletes in these programs.”

The sports medicine team from Core Orthopaedics will bring their experience with the national STOP Sports Injuries campaign to the coaches and players at Seacoast United. The campaign focuses on educating athletes, parents, trainers, coaches and healthcare providers about the rapid increase in youth sports injuries, the necessary steps to help reverse the trend and the need to keep young athletes healthy. In addition, physical therapists from Exeter Hospital’s Rehabilitation Services will help the players, parents and coaches at Seacoast United learn a series of dynamic warm up exercises that are designed to decrease the risk of injury.

All parts are open, including Dorothy, the Wicked Witch of the West, Glinda, Scarecrow, Cowardly Lion, Tinman, Wizard, Ozians, monkeys, winkies, and munchkins. Since its publication in September 1900, L. Frank Baum’s The Wonderful Wizard of Oz has become America’s greatest and best-loved homegrown fairytale. The first totally American fantasy for children, it is one of the most-read children’s books. It has also engendered a long series of sequels, stage plays, musicals, and movies. The Oz story has become a classic because it blends elements of traditional magic, such as witches, with ones from early twentieth-century American reality, such as a Kansas cyclone, a scarecrow, a man made of tin, and a wizard from Omaha.
