Getting ready for summer? Thanks to the Mary-Jo Hinkle and the Epping Garden Club, the library is newly adorned with flowers for the season. Whether you are planning some new garden project or stocking up on good reads for the weekend, remember to stop by the library.  From classic plays to current bestsellers, “how to” manuals to popular DVDs, there are always new items arriving.  Don’t see (or even know) exactly what you want? Let a staff member help you find that “just right” title.

The 5th annual Toy Sale is finally here!  On Saturday, June 27th from 9 to 1 support Epping’s summer reading program and get some great buys on gently used toys, games and sports equipment. Need an incentive to get the kids to clean their rooms?  Let them earn a dollar to spend at the Toy Sale! As a bonus incentive, the Friends of the Library are opening the Book Sale Room for one day of Free Books!  Help us find homes for books that have found their way to our sale room, and remember to tell friends about the toy sale.

Summer Reading begins in Epping on Monday, June 29th.  The SRP theme this year is Navigating the Nile – an exploration of ancient Egypt.  The core program, created for 5 to 11 year olds by the Epping Elementary School’s library staff, will run at the Harvey Mitchell Memorial Library for 6 weeks, Monday through Thursday from 10 to 2, and Wednesday evenings from 5 to 8.  For every 30 minutes they read, children earn currency to spend in “King Tut’s Tomb” (the SRP Store) and tickets to create projects and try new challenges as they work their way around the library’s own Nile valley.

Preschoolers are also invited to participate in the program by filling out logs as they are read to, and earning ancient currency to spend at the SRP store too.  Preschool Storyhour will switch to its summer schedule beginning July 1st and will introduce children ages 2 to 6 to the world of ancient Egypt with stories and crafts that tie into the Nile theme. Wednesday and Thursday morning groups will start at 9:15, and the Thursday afternoon group will meet at 2:30.  Families with preschoolers are also welcome to try the “big kid” crafts and challenges during the core program.

The library is open Monday through Friday from 10 to 8 and Saturday from 10 to 2.  Call 679-5944 for more information about any of our programs.
