The new Market Basket store in Epping, in the new new Brickyard Square shopping center on Route 125 behind Burger King, is set to open on Wednesday, April 14th, 2010. This was confirmed in a phone call to Market Basket’s headquarters in Tewksbury, MA.

The store will be the 63rd Market Basket store, and at 77,000 square feet, the largest in New Hampshire. The supermarket will give competition to the Super Wal-Mart located across 125 and 101 from the new store. Wal-Mart had been the only supermarket in town since it opened. Previously residents needed to go to Raymond, Lee or Stratham for groceries, but will soon have the choice of two supermarkets right here in town.

The store signage has been up for a couple of weeks now, and the entrance sign for Brickyard Square has also been erected.

Epping Market Basket was originally scheduled to open around Thanksgiving of 2009, but the economic downturn and other setbacks have delayed the opening until April.

After four years of teaching yoga through local town recreation departments, Molly Schlangen took a leap of faith and made it her full-time career.

The Raymond woman recently opened up Awakening Grace Yoga inside a newly renovated space on Main Street in Epping. The studio, which focuses on the Kripalu form of yoga, has been busy ever since and now offers morning and evening classes five days a week.

For Schlangen, who worked previously as an elementary school nurse, the studio has been a goal for some time. She started teaching yoga four years ago through the Raymond Recreation Department under the guidance of her yoga mentor Tim Brusso. The two eventually expanded their class offerings to the Epping Recreation Department where Schlangen saw the need for a more permanent yoga studio.

The four women scrubbed customers’ cars in bikini tops and Daisy Duke shorts all day Friday, while Warren watched his parts sales spike. A spontaneous sponge fight was reported.

How would you like to try out a new car for six months for free?

That’s what one Epping man is getting to do after Ford chose him to test drive a car that isn’t even for sale in the United States yet. All he has to do is be honest and make Web videos about it.

John Herman is a full-time Epping High School teacher, but now, he’s also a new car tester.

“I found out about the Fiesta Movement, which is what this whole thing is called, on Twitter,” Herman said.

Last month, Herman was chosen by Ford as one of 100 people to drive around a Fiesta, a car that isn’t out yet. For six months, the company will pay for anything related to the car, and Herman makes videos about it.

The identity of the grocery store had been kept quiet until selectmen made it public at their board meeting last night.

Officials from Waterstone Retail Development, the Massachusetts developer planning the shopping center, would not confirm last week that Market Basket was the mystery grocery store.

The 76,452-square-foot Market Basket will be the first store built in the 271,649-square-foot shopping center behind Burger King. Other retailers have not yet been announced.

Andrew Sweet and four fellow Epping Middle School students are members of the newly- launched Youth Venture Team. They have created the Fix—It Bike Shop.

The venture will provide low-cost bike repair for area residents and offer money-saving lessons on maintenance and safety.

Sweet created the Fix-It Bike Shop after noticing that few residents in his town were cyclists. He assumed this was due to the lack of bike shops in the area.

Sweet thought if a shop opened that not only repaired bicycles but taught residents how to maintain them, people would more likely ride them. By riding bikes, people would be in better shape as well as help the environment, he reasoned.

A Maine developer has proposed a new retail building on Route 125 that will include Tractor Supply Co.

H.L. Patten of Kittery plans to build 19,097 square feet of retail space for Tractor Supply Co. and a 20,070-square-foot fenced-in area for outdoor sales at the proposed retail building at 212 Route 125.

The building will also include 10,000 square feet for a second retailer. Howard Patten, owner of H.L. Patten, said he’s still negotiating with national retailers for that second retail store.

The proposal will go before the planning board Thursday.

Tractor Supply Co. is a national chain of retail stores specializing in products for farmers and homeowners. The retailer, which uses the slogan, “The stuff you need out here,” describes itself as one of the largest retail chains in the United States. Its customers include farmers and ranchers, hobby farmers, rural homeowners and contractors.

The store caters to home improvement and agricultural needs, but also sells other products such as feed, clothing, mowers, and lawn and garden and pet care items.
