Remnants of the Ice Storm of ’08 are still visible, but Epping and the rest of southern New Hampshire took another blow last night when high winds from a February nor’easter knocked out power in most of the town.
Police Lt. Michael Wallace told Jason Schreiber of theĀ Manchester Union Leader that his department was informed by Public Service of New Hampshire that power likely wouldn’t be restored until Monday or Tuesday.
Trees were spotted down across roads all over town. At the time of this post, EppingNews had received reports of trees and wires down on Plummer Rd, Red Oak Hill Rd, Blake Rd, Prescott Rd, Old Stagecoach Rd and East Delany Rd, as well as along routes 125 and 27. Route 27 had been closed due to four uprooted telephone poles after a truck struck a low wire.
Wallace said that the damage done was actually worse than the 2008 Ice Storm, as more large trees were brought down. A residence on Plumer Rd had a large evergreen tree uprooted in it’s front yard. Trees came down on several other buildings in town.
Schreiber also reports that “Emergency officials are also keeping an eye on the Lamprey River, which was forecast to rise above flood stage this morning. So far, no significant problems have been reported.”
